14/10/2015: Future WAS Events

Latin American & Caribbean Aquaculture 2015 - Fortaleza, Brazil - November 16-19.

Organised by the World Aquaculture Society in conjunction with FENACAM15 and SARA15 (South America Regional Aquaculture 2015).

Within the context of FENACAM & LACQUA / SARA (WAS) '15, the XII International Shrimp Farming Symposium will feature 15 presentations by world renowned speakers from 11 countries, addressing the most important issues related to the farmed shrimp industry, such as production, nutrition, use of intensive nurseries and raceways, animal health, new additives and new management techniques, biosecurity, best management practices and national and international markets etc.

In addition, the concurrent IX International Aquaculture Symposium will also feature 15 presentations from world renowned speakers during a three day period. The themes of the IX International Aquaculture Symposium Aquaculture are similar to the XII International Shrimp Farming Symposium with emphasis on fish farming (tilapia, Amazonian fishes, salmon) mollusks culture etc. There will be simultaneous translation English / Portuguese / Spanish for the 30 presentations in both Symposia.

The Third World Economic Forum on Tilapia Culture: 'New global challenges to a competitive tilapia industry' - November 18, 2015.

The World Economic Forum on Tilapia Culture (WEFTC) is an annual aquaculture meeting that target the economic aspects of the global tilapia industry. We are a large and diverse group of people from all continents involved in shaping the global, regional, national tilapia industry agendas. The annual meeting was idealized during the year of 2012, an the first official meeting happened in November 2013 in Mexico (Tuxtla Gutierrez, state of Chiapas). More than 350 people gathered into our session, and we discussed several economic aspects of the tilapia value chain in several countries and continents. The instant success of this first meeting generated a second less than one year later in September 2013 in Colombia (Neiva, State of Huila). During the Colombian meeting it was established that the WEFTC is an independent, impartial and not tied to any special interests forum, working in close cooperation with all major international aquaculture organizations. The main objective is to engages political, business, academic and other leaders of the aquaculture and tilapia value chain in collaborative efforts to improve it's sustainable growth globally. Based in the concept of the World Forum, we work during our sessions to define challenges, solutions and actions, always in the spirit of global citizenship, and moral and intellectual integrity is at the heart of everything it does.

In this third version of the World Economic Forum On Tilapia Culture (WEFTC), we intend to continue exposing global economic policies, global trade, the challenges and dangers, business opportunities and appropriate technologies that allow the profitability of the tilapia value chain, accepting that the future of aquaculture is today, issues that have already been discussed in the framework of the first and second editions of our events. The overall objective of this event is to create spaces for discussion and analysis of the current situation, problems and challenges the aquaculture and fisheries of tilapia and related species of the same niche/market at global and regional levels, as well as to promote and disseminate the trends that will shape these activities in the changing global environment. It will feature the participation of invited international speakers from Norway, Colombia, United States, Mexico, and Chile, as well as major Brazilian exponents regarding the aquaculture sector, allowing great opportunities for discussion within this framework.

As part of FENACAM & LACQUA / SARA (WAS) '15, the Technical Sessions will address 27 themes covering recent advances on aquaculture research on all fields of aquaculture, as stress and welfare, nutrition and health of freshwater and marine species in different productions systems as bioflocs, integrated multi-trophic, RAS, AQUAPONICS, ornamentals, water quality and environment, aquafood processing and policies. During the Technical Sessions, Researchers, technicians, students and aquaculture industry members from 21 countries of all continents will present the latest technologies in 640 oral and posters, including 20 presentations of renowned speakers.
