Skretting the naming sponsor of the World Aquaculture Adelaide Conference

Skretting, the naming sponsor of the World Aquaculture Adelaide conference, is a world leader in the nutritional solutions for farmed fish and shrimp with a total annual production of 1.7 million tonnes.

It operates companies on five continents and produces and delivers feeds from hatching to harvest for more than 60 species of farmed fish and shrimp. It is owned by international animal nutrition and fish feed group Nutreco, which is listed on the NYSE Euronext stock exchange in Amsterdam.

Nutreco and Skretting are committed to improving the sustainability of the aquaculture sector.

In April 2013, José Villalón was appointed as Nutreco’s Corporate Sustainability Director. José has more than 30 years of experience in the aquaculture industry. Before his appointment, José was the Vice President and Managing Director of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF-US) Aquaculture Programme.

His primary role was overseeing eight multi-stakeholder roundtables, collectively called the Aquaculture Dialogues, which involved the participation of over 2200 stakeholders over eight years to create global standards that address the environmental and social impacts associated with 12-species groups of aquaculture commodity production (including farmed salmon and shrimp).

He was the first Chairman of the Board of the independent Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and remains on that Board.

As Nutreco’s Corporate Sustainability Director, José is responsible for the implementation of the company's global Sustainability Vision towards 2020 that is based on clear ambitions in the areas of people, planet and profit. This vision and the related goals are an integral part of our corporate strategy for driving sustainable growth.

Making sustainability an integral part of everyday business will ensure Nutreco can contribute to the Feeding the Future challenge: feeding nine billion people sustainably in 2050.

Please join us in Adelaide to hear José address this topic as one of the conference’s plenary speakers.

‘Skretting’ World Aquaculture Adelaide is an opportunity for the international aquaculture community to present their research, exchange ideas and discuss a vision for the future of the aquaculture industry as they focus on the theme of ‘Create, Nurture, Grow’, reflecting the dynamic nature of aquaculture development in the region.
