4/10/12: Maria Damanaki; BC aquaculture cash and more

  • This morning we've heard that the Global Aquaculture Alliance has certified its first salmon farms in Australasia.  The Best Aquaculture Practices programme has certified two Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon Ltd. farms in the Mackenzie Basin area near Twizel, New Zealand.  Congratulations to everyone at Mt.  Cook Alpine Salmon.  More information...
  • The British Columbia aquaculture industry is to receive a cash injection of $1.25 million from the Harper Government.  Eleven companies will benefit from the money, which is earmarked for sustainable and innovative aquaculture projects in the province.  More information...
  • Maria Damanaki, EU Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for has been in action this week speaking at the Future Fisheries conference in Brussels on sustainable fisheries.  Damanaki told delegates that the EU is behind the rest of the world when it comes to sustainable management of fisheries resources.  Read the full speech here.
