10/09/12: Australian algae; Canadian regulation; Bangladesh shrimp farms

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend.  Most of the team are back in the office after AQUA 2012, which by all accounts was a roaring success.  Here's what's been going on in the world of aquaculture...
  • Algae has been identified as a source of potential new jobs in the Pilbara, Australia.  A State Government report pinpoints the region as a potential site for algae aquaculture due to its sunny climate and proximity to sea water.  Read more...
  • Canadian fisheries ministers consider national approach to aquaculture regulation.  Until two years ago, provincial governments were responsible for aquaculture. This protocol changed when a court decision in British Columbia handed responsibility to Ottawa.  Read more...
  • Shrimp farms in Bangladesh are under threat from government lawsuits.  The legal action, filed by the Bangladesh Water Development Board accuses farms in the Khulna and Satkhira districts of facilitating saline water to enter farms by damaging roads, dams and other infrastructure.  Read more...
